Seroquel now there is a pill
No way to easily put it all these side effects…
No metabolism, no perfect weight
It helps me sleep, but mostly eat
It often makes me stumble on my feet
What a fuckin treat all these meds I get to take, is my feelings real or are they fake?
Mostly is this my life to take ? Gee all this is just grand so great.
Now if this is my choice, my voice if it mattered I suppose quite simply I chose the latter.
Sad but true these ups and downs this roller coaster goes round and round
I’m tired now I want to get down and stand firmly upon ground.
Do you stand firmly on ground? You see, Or are you just like me? Confused conflicted often addicted to the one thing that makes you feel grounded
I thought my screams were alone but it sounded like echos of others all like me screaming in hell trying to be free
Seroquel
Hey just started me on 25mg to turn off the mania at night to sleep.

Awesome read! I was on seroquel for 2 months, made me so sedated I was slurring my speech and couldn’t walk a straight line, basically drunk. Also gained 20 pounds! I’ve been off it for 4 months now and my metabolism is only starting to return to normal – yikes! Did not work for me at all, though I’ve heard it works great for some. Thanks for sharing!

Wow that’s exactly how I feel

Yeah and it’s the only one that works for me to sleep if you can call this working. I gained enough weight to have a gastric sleeve to lose the weight. I have to find something that Doesn’t interact against the metabolism

For me, despite the side effects, this drug has pretty much saved my life. Coming off it abruptly once before screwed me over – and being on it again has helped. It’s not all bad. Just no one comes online to vent about it working well for them I guess.

It’s all that helped me too but I have lost my good eyesight had to have a gastric sleeve because I became morbidly obese but I’ve tried them all and it was the only one that worked for me

I have gained a lot of weight on regular Seroquel in the past, but not so much on Seroquel XR (the extended release type). I think the extended release is fairly weight neutral for me up to about 350 mg. Beyond that I do start to get hunger for cards. At 350 mg I haven’t gained any weight for a long time. I weigh about the same now as I did at one point when I was 30 years old taking ZERO medications. I am prone to be a little bit chunky, but that’s genes. But it is true that some bipolar medications made my weight gain worse. For me they were regular Seroquel, Risperdal, Invega, and Depakote.

i hated this, it made me gain so much weight and i was always asleep, i ended up taking latuda but it was almost just as bad, ill just live being sad all the time 😦

I understand your frustration. Serquel works for me along with Lamictal and clonopin. I had a gastric sleeve done recently. Now I have to find a medicine eventually that will work. Latuda made me manic

Really? I never had many manic episodes mostly just depression just 2 manic episodes (only when I took Antidepressants) but I felt like latuda didn’t fix my depression just made me less suicidal. So I just stopped going to my doctor and stopped taking it lol what’s the point

No point in being fat and sad I’ll be skinnier and sad lol

Well there is the lol. So you find humor in your statement. As long as you don’t feel suicidal for more than a day your ok. But if your up and down then your bipolar through and through and the depression will eventually turn to mania. Good luck.

Love your poem. It spoke such words of wisdom. Wish I had wrote it myself. Lol. I took seroquel 600mg and gained over 40 pounds and was always eating, even when I didn’t really want to. Before this i was on lamictal which was horrible for me, a whole other story. Ahh..anyways LOVE your poem

Thank you. I still take it and Lamictal. I actually was approved for the gastric sleeve. It was a battle but I won and didn’t pay a dime. I had it done on 3-15 of this year. Now… the kicker is keeping it off, or coming off the Serquel which is truly the only thing that helps me sleep.

Wow that’s awesome. Yes the seroquel is good for sleep, I believe I was taking too much since I was basically a zombie the whole time

Lamictal is actually an anti-seizure med, and seroquel is an anti-psychotic. I personally don’t think anyone needs an anti-psychotic drug unless they are seeing things that aren’t there or hearing voices. Strictly for bipolar, Lamictal is awesome and doesn’t have many side effects. Plus it is weight neutral. So many of the bipolar medication out there are weight gainers. Being overweight will NOT help my depression and isolation. That’s just me.

I’m on both and I felt Manic last year put myself on it now I’m gonna taper off

You don’t see things when you go Manic at least I don’t, I don’t hear things either. But I cause a lot of damage in other ways serquel dulls the mania

Nice poem about Seroquel, I hated that med, but it works for a lot of people. It sounds like serenity and calm, which for many it does that but I really didn’t like it. Thanks for your poem!

Antipsychotics, right? They’re a fun group. I am/was also on Seroquel and Lamictal. Currently on a trial run of Seroquel and Lithium. Bipolar Disorder is a blast!

ok, I wrote a few articles in bipolar hope, “Me, My Metabolism and The Market” and “Three Sizes of Clothes.” I wish I’d stayed on Seroquel. It was the drug my body was most compatible with. Going on “weight neutral” Geodon gave me Tardive Dyskinesia and Now I have to take a drug that’s 65% more likely than Seroquel to be a weight gainer and cause diabetes type two. STill I’d stick with the Seroquel and avoid trigger food. That’s how I did it. Hey would you do me a favor and click on this link for my latest article for bipolar hope? If you search for my name “Allison Strong” blogs, you’ll see the atypical antipsychotic/weight articles. I’ve read a million articles by “Life Coaches” and “Nutritionists” with this problem and at 5’2″ 300 pounds, happy to have lost five pounds in a year, they are satisfied with that. What I did was sustainable and I lost 60 Clozaril pounds four years ago and am more satisfied with that. Anywya, this link will take you to all that and if you are interested in more back and forth in regards to atypicals or 2nd generation antipsychotics and weight I’m availailable.

It’s called “Medication Fatigue” or Burnout or…in the early years they’d giggle about it behind closed doors and called it “Prozac Poopout.” I dont’ think it’s funny. After a certain amount of time, bpmom, it happens to me, too. Whatever.

there are good things about Seroquel (I’m on an older atypical that’s twice as bad as Seroquel with metabolic prolbems. It’s called Clozaril and I take it for tardive dyskinesia) anyway Seroquel has a lower chance of causing tardive dyskinesia. It’s because the molecule doesn’t cling as tightly to the D 2 receptor. I’d stay on the S and try to avoid tardive and being stuck with an atypical like Clozaril that when studied in Mice and people, caused twice as much diabetes. I have to work at working out and dieting all the time. You would not believe.

Nicole, the doctors don’t want us to have this info, otherwise, we’d research the affinity of said ‘atypical’ (Geodon, Abilify, Seroquel) and pick which side effect we’d rather have. A lifetime of feeling ravenous and stampeding down a one way street to diabetes type 2 or….a movement disorder? I’ve been around the block for 27 years now, so I got both side effects and am writing a book on it. I wish I’d stayed on Seroquel and gotten myself some lowdose extended release Vyvanse instead of switching to Geodon. I’m pretty sure Geodon was the culprit because when we switched me back to Seroquel, the shakes disappeared for a year. Not all atypicals are the same, trust me on this. Not only that, if you go on Propublica, for free, they have a tool called ‘dollars for doctors’ and it counts ever dollar they received from pharma and what for.

I’m on 400mg of serquel it’s the only drug that works. I’ve tried them all including gedone and I knew in 24 hrs that I couldn’t take it or risperdone tegretol, depacote, saphris you name it I tried it.
I love serquel however my wieeght is through the roof! I actually am working closely to getting a sleeve on my stomach basically they cut 80% of my stomach out stitch it up.
Lap bands are proven to be not as good as thought. We all know gastric bypass doesn’t either.
I have to more loops to jump through and I am operating ready.
All paid by insurance because of serquel they realize many sideaffects of the med, and my doctors all recommended the procedure to give me the head start.
Also the sleeve or cut on stomach allow the information that should be sent to brain properly work because it sends out the hormones that should be sent to brain along with other chemicals that regulate the metabolism

If I had stayed on Seroquel I would not have Tardive Dyskinesia. Seroquel and Clozaril are the safest regarding this horrific side effect. Clozaril twice as bad metabolically as Seroquel. So in the end, I got both side effects. Slam!~
